Global Ground Media journalists are part of the Private Security Network, “an online platform devoted to journalistic investigations into the private security industry.”

Many governments are now outsourcing tasks that used to be performed by national police or defence forces to private companies.  But transparency is often lacking compared to public agencies, as many things are kept secret on the grounds of commercial confidentiality.

Private security companies guard prisons, oil fields and money transfers. In most countries around the world, private security outnumbers police, according to the Guardian.
